Coach Bain and our student athletes shared the following responses when asked, "What does this win mean to you?"

Coach Brendon Bain

"This win means the program is going in the right direction. It means all the time that the coaches spent with all of the student athletes was worth it."

– Coach Brendon Bain

Chris Jace
"It means a lot to me to be recognized even though I had higher expectations for myself and my team, but it’s always an honor to be recognized for all the hard work that I put in before and during the season. I want to thank my teammates, coaching staff and faculty for putting me in a position to be recognized. I WILL BE BACK AND BETTER."

– Chris Jace

Isavior Coombs
"It means the world to me to be recognized and awarded for doing what I genuinely love to do; and that’s empowering and uplifting the people that I encounter all through life’s course. I was asked in 2018 what would I like to be doing in 10 years and my response was to be helping people, and I feel like I’m on the right track of doing just that and it’s showing."

– Isavior Coombs

Orion-Anyango

"It means to me that there were some who acknowledged me for my efforts and I’m grateful for that. I also realize I have to work harder to prove to myself and others that I’m better than what I’ve shown. All in all, I thank God for the opportunity to play basketball again."

– Orion Anyango

Phillip Harris

"Honestly, it doesn’t mean anything to me, I wanted more for me and my teammates."

– Phillip Harris

Jayden Vega

"Winning the post-season awards meant a lot to me in so many ways. As a freshman, it made me feel good knowing that I worked hard. It also made my family and supporters proud, which motivates me to continue to work hard and show up for myself. The award set my standards high and has motivated me to work to win player of the year and 1st team all-region. I’m bettering myself as a player to show up for my teammates so we can win what we deserve. Next season I will be back and better."

– Jayden Vega

Tionna Davis

"I'm proud and grateful for the opportunity to hold this title as CUNY Player of the Year as a freshman. I’ve learned a lot when it comes to strategizing, being defensive, being supportive, being assertive, and I’m so honored that all of my hard work has been seen and recognized not only by my teammates, coaches and family but also by CUNY schools and coaches throughout the city. I hope to inspire others to focus on their goals and never give up. I’m still growing, I’m still learning, still striving and forever motivated. Most of all, I am proud of myself. There’s more to come. This is just the beginning."

– Tionna Davis

Arta Gjeloshi

"Winning the post-season award meant a lot to me. I’m glad I was able to make a difference even if I wasn’t on the court that much. I was able to help my teammates keep their heads up and made sure they were good. Even if I didn’t win this award, I still would have been supporting my teammates. But overall, it meant a lot to me. It's shows I still have more work to do and I will."

– Arta Gjeloshi

Kayla Wilson

"Winning the post season award honestly meant everything to me. It showed me that I actually had an impact towards my team's success. This award pushes me to work 10 times harder on and off the court and motivates me to reveal more of my game and presence next season. It will push me to be in the gym working harder than everyone else, and to build another goal towards winning more awards while I'm at KCC. I want to thank my coaches and teammates for trusting me and helping me towards this award. Bless up, never stress up."

– Kayla Wilson
