CLASS SESSIONS
Classes will be a combination of lectures and discussions. Active participation in discussions is expected. It is important to keep up with reading assignments in order to participate effectively in the exchange of ideas. Students using the Internet will have an extra advantage in this activity.
ATTENDANCE
You are expected to attend every class. If you are absent, you must provide a written excuse and pertinent documentation (e.g. a doctor's note). It is the policy of the department that six unaccounted for absences constitutes an unofficial withdrawal. Lateness disrupts the learning environment, so please make every effort to be on time. If you are late, it is your responsibility to make sure you have been checked in. A consistent pattern of lateness will have a negative effect on the final grade.
EXAMINATIONS AND GRADING
There will be two examinations on the dates designated below (35 percent each if extra credit work is handed in on time; without the extra credit option, each examination will be worth 45 percent). Exam format: multiple choice, identifications, and essays. Essays will be evaluated for factual accuracy, specific reference to assigned texts and organizational coherence.
