Curriculum:  A.S. Biotechnology, 60 credits

This is a detailed curriculum presenting the courses required for completing the A.S. Biotechnology Degree.

Our New Biotechnology Courses within the Curriculum
Bio 57: Cell Culture and Cloning
Bio 58: Recombinant DNA Technology
Bio 65: Molecular and Cellular Biology
Bio 60: Bioinformatics

These biotech courses are taught within the following curriculum leading to the A.S. Biotechnology degree:

College Requirements - 10 cr.

Eng 24,  Freshman English II  3 cr.
HPE 12, Foundations of Health and Physical Education  3 cr.

Departmental Requirements (consultation with departmental advisor is required) - 34-35 cr.

Biology - 20 cr.
Bio 13 and Bio 14 (General Biology I and II), 4 cr. each                   = 8 cr.
Bio 50 (Microbiology), or Bio 59 (Genetics), 4 cr.                             = 4 cr.
Bio 57 (Cell Culture and Cloning), or Bio 58 (DNA Biotechnology)   = 4 cr.
Bio 65 (Cell and Molecular Biology)                                                  = 4 cr.

Mathematics and Computer Science - 6-7 cr.
Mat 20 (Statistics)                                                                              = 3 cr.
Course in Computer Science (one of the following)                          = 3-4cr.
Bio/CIS 60
(Bioinformatics), or
BA 60 (Introduction to Computer Concepts), or
CP11 (Introduction to Computers and Computer Applications), or
TEC 25 (Office Computer Applications)

Group Requirements (Courses in the Liberal Arts)- 9 credits
A minimum of 3 cr. must each be in basic courses selected from 3 out of the 4 groups (Groups I-IV as listed below).  No more than one course in any one group.

Group I - Performing and Visual Arts
(Excluded are Art and Music Studio, Theatre Production and Tech. courses

Group II - Language and Literature, Foreign Language, & Philosophy

Group III - Social Sciences, History, Economics and Political Science

Group IV - Behavioral Sciences, Anthropology, Psychology and Sociology

Electives: 4-5 credits
It is recommended that students who took Bio 57 take Bio 58 as an elective; and students that took Bio 58, take Bio 57 as their elective. This pattern of elective selection provides students with maximal exposure to cutting edge biotechnical methods facilitating internships and job placement).
