Dr. Carol A. Biermann- Short Biography

Carol A. Biermann, Ed.D., is professor of biological sciences at Kingsborough Community College, City University of New York, where she has taught since 1966. Dr. Biermann is an active member of the college community, serving on numerous departmental and college committees. For a number of years, she co-chaired woman's history month presentations at the college.

Dr. Biermann received her B.A. and M.A. degrees at Brooklyn College and her Ed.D. (Dr. in Science Education) at Rutgers University. She has authored and co-authored many articles for various refereed journals, including the Journal for Research in College Teaching, Journal of College Science Teaching, American Biology Teacher, and Science Education. She has co-edited the volume, Women in the Biological Sciences: A Biobibliographic Source Book, Greenwood Press, 1997. In addition, Professor Biermann has written essays for several publications for women in science, including Rosalyn Yalow and Ruth Sager. Dr. Biermann regularly presents papers at scientific meetings. She is an active member of the National Asociation of Biology Teachers (NABT) and the Metropolitan Association for College and University Biologists (MACUB). She was conference chair for MACUB's Annual Meeting held at Kingsborough on November 4, 2000. In 1999 Dr. Biermann presented a paper concerning the lives of 8 women scientists who were affected by the holocaust at the 8th International Conference on the Holocaust at the Millenium, in Jerusalem, Israel.
