Mission Statement

The English Department emphasizes critical thinking and creativity in addition to skills development. To this end, we offer a wide variety of literature and writing courses that will prove valuable to students throughout their educational and professional careers, while enhancing personal satisfaction.

We also participate in the Honors Program, offer courses in print journalism, a reading/ writing-intensive Immersion program, and a full range of developmental and ESL reading and writing courses for the benefit of both native and non-native speakers of English.

Most important, we have a diverse, versatile, highly skilled and experienced faculty, committed to the success of the individual student and noted for their teaching excellence as well as their creative and scholarly achievements. Our knowledgeable and understanding office staff are ready to assist you with any questions or concerns you might have about your course of study in the English Department.
