It 3 -- Intermediate Italian I (3 crs. 3 hrs.)
Progressive development of language skills, based on foundations established in elementary Italian. Grammar review supplemented by readings of modern Italian literature. Prerequisite: It 2 or acceptable Language Placement Examination score

It 4 -- Intermediate Italian II (3 crs. 3 hrs.)
Advanced grammar, composition and reading of modern Italian authors.
Prerequisite: It 3 or acceptable Language Placement Examination score

It 22 -- Elementary Italian Conversation (3 crs. 3 hrs.)
Practice in conversational patterns and basic vocabulary leading to fluency in everyday situations.
Prerequisite: It 2 or three years of high school Italian or Department permission

It 30 -- Readings in Italian Literature in Translation (3 crs. 3 hrs.)
For students who do not necessarily speak Italian, a study, analysis and discussion of the most outstanding literary productions of Italy, from the Middle Ages to contemporary texts. The course is taught entirely in English.
Prerequisite: ENG 12

It 70 -- Italian Cinema (3 hrs. 3 crs.)
Study of the most outstanding films and film scripts in the Italian cinema, from the silent era and Fascist period to the present, with emphasis on post-war neorealism and the major directors of the sixties and seventies. Films in Italian with English subtitles. Instruction is in English with a view toward developing an appreciation of the history, art and aesthetics of Italian cinema.

It 81 -- Independent Study (1-3 crs. 1-3 hrs.)
Independent study of Italian is developed individually between student and faculty member and must be approved by the Department.

It 82 -- (1-3 crs. 1-3 hrs.)
This course is of a topical and pilot nature and is designed to meet the immediate needs and interests of various student populations. It is offered for a maximum of two semesters.
