![]() The aim of this course is to develop in the students the language skills in their natural order: listening, speaking, reading and writing. The course has been designed to successfully cover the essentials of Spanish and contains a variety of exercises and activities to develop all language skills while providing a strong cultural base.
As a primary textbook we use ¿Cómo se dice?, by Jarvis, Lebredo, and Mena-Ayllón, Ninth Edition (Boston-New York: Houghton Mifflin Co, 2009), an excellent text with a workbook companion that will be used also in SPA 2. In addition to the scheduled classes, a state of the art Language Laboratory, weekly professors’ office hours, cultural activities, and free tutorial services create a wide range of possibilities beyond the classroom for those students who want to achieve excellence in their learning process. However, since this course has been designed for beginners, if you studied Spanish for three or more years in High School, or you are a native speaker, you must take a Foreign Language Placement Examination that will reflect your Spanish proficiency. If this is your case, go to the Placement Exam page in order to take this test on-line. It will take approximately 10 to 15 minutes of your time and you will have the results immediately. Once you finish this test, the program will automatically open the course you must take based on your test results. Then, just select the section that better fits your schedule. |
¡Bienvenidos y buena suerte! (Note: If you do not know what the above expression means, you will very soon!) |
