MARITIME TECHNOLOGY, A.A.S. DEGREE

Program trains men and women for careers at sea and ashore

Maritime Technology
  • Sixty college credit program (two years) earns students an Associate in Applied Science Degree (A.A.S.) in Maritime Technology from Kingsborough Community College (KCC), a unit of the City University of New York.

  • Training is 50% “hands-on” in labs and on boats and 50% classroom.

  • Graduates employed in New York Harbor as Captains, mates or deckhands aboard ferries Dinner boats, tug boats and private yachts.

  • Graduates employed ashore as marina managers and in vessel repair service and sales.

  • Many graduates use sixty credits to satisfy requirements for entry into NYC Police and Fire Departments and work as NYC Police and Fire Officers both on NYC Police and Fire boats and on land.

  • Most students work during summer between first and second year in Maritime internships.

  • U.S. Coast Guard approved program. Graduates earn 250 days of sea-time applicable toward a Captains license or United States Merchant Marine Officers license.

  • Thirty credits transferable to senior (4year) colleges.

  • Technical training includes courses in Oceanography, Seamanship, Navigation, Marine Electronics, Ship Handling, Sailing, Marina Operations, Vessel Repair, Fiber-glassing, Welding, Diesel and outboard engines, Safety and Survival, First Aid, CPR, Fire Fighting, STCW Certification.

  • Many classes conducted aboard college’s training vessels and in campus marina.
