Practicum Requirements : After the initial semester, the student registers for a Practicum each semester. This is clinical practice in the operating room at various clinical agencies participating in surgical procedures. Course Completion: |

Health Clearance – Malpractice Insurance – CPR Certification Prior to registration for the practicum, students in Surgical Technology are required to obtain health clearance from the Kingsborough Community College Office of Health Services (A108). Students should obtain information regarding annual physical examination, immunization, tuberculosis testing and forms from the Office of Health Services (A-108). Students in clinical courses must obtain malpractice insurance that is valid for the entire semester and provide documentation of this to the Nursing Department (MAC 401) prior to registration. Students must also obtain CPR certification and provide documentation to the Nursing Department prior to registration in the first Practicum course. |

Information on obtaining BLS certification and malpractice insurance is available in the Nursing Department office, MAC 401. Students incur expenses of purchasing a required lab coat and KCC patch. They may opt to purchase individual protective goggles. The academic requirements are demanding and students are cautioned to plan their work schedules and extra curricular activities with this in mind. |
