Monthly Campus Updates

November 18, 2020 – Finance & Administration October College Update

  Budget

  • We continue to operate on a 7 Month allocation, in late October, the university provided the college will 4.5 million dollars in special program, lump sum funding. This allocation is also for 7 months and supports numerous programs such as ASAP & College Now.

  • CARES Act Funding – 1/3 of the Campus Allocation is in the process of being released to campuses. The following categories and amounts make up these funds:
  • Tuition and Fee Reimbursement - $194,880
  • Campus Health and Wellness - $248,269
  • Assessment for Central Office Services - $29,509
  • Campus IT Investments for Distance Learning - $649,436
  • Central Laptops and i-Pads Purchases - $528,978
  • Grand Total - $1,651,072

Initial requests have been submitted to CUNY for further review and approval. More information to follow.

Purchasing

  • Due to the current budget environment and limited number of faculty and staff physically present on campus, master orders created for Proftech for the purchase of office supplies has been temporarily disabled.  Proftech is set-up as a next day desktop delivery service to ensure employees receive their goods efficiently and timely.  COVID-19 has affected the aforementioned service for the campus.  Therefore, please create a CUNYfirst requisition for the purchase of your office supplies requirements as-needed.  A PO will be processed and expedited accordingly.

Bursar

  • Check Distribution has continued every two weeks.
  • Paper checks are mailed to anyone that receives one (if you have not done so, please sign up for direct deposit).
  • Paystubs have been scanned and emailed to all faculty/staff. Please see attached instructions for retrieving payroll paystubs out of NYCAPS. The last payroll that will be scanned will be the November 13, 2020 payroll.


Buildings and Grounds

Our custodial department has undergone changes to adapt to the new disinfecting demands brought on by COVID-19. The following has been implemented to meet these demands:

Custodial Training

  • All Custodian personnel have been trained on how to execute the new enhanced cleaning and disinfection protocols. All Custodians have also completed the NYS Return to Work COVID-19 training. The enhanced procedures for cleaning and disinfecting adhere to the requirements as advised by the CDC and NYSDOH. These cleaning protocols are designed for each specific area of campus including restrooms, classrooms, elevators, labs, gym, childcare and offices. Sanitizing targets will especially focus on high-touch surfaces, such as desks, tables, buttons, handrails, faucets, doorknobs, dispensers and shared equipment. Increased frequency of cleaning and disinfecting with attention to these areas helps remove bacteria and viruses, including COVID-19.

 

Revised Custodial Schedules

  • Custodial shifts are designed to harmonize with all academic and Continuing Education classroom instructional schedules. There are Custodian shifts for daytime, evening, night and weekend classroom coverage. Designated custodial and supervisory personnel are assigned to perform deep cleaning and sanitizing of every classroom utilized. Where possible, sanitizing will take place in between classes and after each session. These revised schedules also include disinfecting high touch surfaces throughout the day in public spaces.

Cleaning Equipment

  • During the evening shifts, Custodial teams are assigned to operate electrostatic disinfectant sprayers to clean and disinfect spaces throughout the school. The sprayers utilize an EPA registered, CDC approved disinfectant. These sprayers assist in sanitizing areas more efficiently and effectively.

 

Custodial Logs

  • Each area of the campus is assigned to a Custodial team and supervisor. Cleaning and disinfecting activity is documented by utilizing logs, checklists and other documentation. These administrative logs are reviewed daily and are analyzed by Facility managers to track progress and make schedule adjustments. Disinfectant logs are posted in every classroom and student designated restroom.


Our custodial teams are working hard to ensure a safe and clean environment for all.

Environmental Health & Safety

  • EH&S certified 60 nursing students to wear respirators for protection against COVID-19 while completing their clinical work at Coney Island hospital.  Certification included testing for proper fit, a medical clearance, and training on the proper use of wearing a respirator.

  • Provided annual OSHA-required safety training to B&G laborers.

  • Conducted weekly audits to confirm continued compliance with KCC’s COVID-19 reopening plan. The audit confirms the campus has signage posted for mask wearing and social distancing, disinfection procerus are followed, and students and staff are wearing face coverings for COVID prevention.

 

Onstage at Kingsborough

On Stage At Kingsborough presented a wide range of virtual performances in the last month, each on a pay-what-you-can basis. These included “Recuerdo Tango” (filmed live in performance and currently streaming through November 29th); the acclaimed Motown, Doo Wop & Rock ‘n’ Roll group, Under The Streetlamp; award-winning jazz artist Allan Harris (filmed live at the San Javier Festival in Spain); and an exclusive commission of a Spanish dance and guitar performance (filmed live at an ancient Roman Amphitheatre in Granada, Spain).

Arts in education activities also were offered, with an interactive performance of “Peter and The Wolf” featuring a wind ensemble live-on-Zoom from Israel, with stage and television actress Daniella Rabbani in New York. Three schooltime performances of “Peter and The Wolf” were offered to approximately 1,300 public schoolchildren, free of charge. On Stage At Kingsborough also hosted Master Choreographer Fadi J. Khoury of FJK Dance in a movement workshop for Kingsborough Theatre Department students.

On Stage At Kingsborough hosted a free community Zoom event for its patrons, billed as a “virtual lobby” where patrons could gather and talk about the performances just as they would after a live show.

On Stage At Kingsborough has been recognized in the press for its virtual presentations from Time Out New York (a Pick of the Week), Times Square Chronicles (Pick of the Week), and the Brooklyn Paper/Schneps Media (feature article).

  Public Safety

The Staff continues to secure, patrol and safeguard the campus. All Public Safety protocols and campus access policies, including our Everbridge symptom checker application are strictly adhered to.
