It is recommended that you make a backup of each of your courses onto your local hard drive.
First create a folder on your C drive called Blackboard Backup to store all your backup files. Create it off the root (c:\Blackboard backup) so that you can find and navigate to it easily.

First some naming conventions:-

For KCC, Spring and Summer courses end with 02, Fall and Winter classes end with 09.
Blackboard lists courses by college_descipline_course number_section_year and semester

Example: KB_CS_01200_E02R_200402 (.. a 2004 Spring or Summer course)

Export Course

To Backup a Course –Export

  • Click on the course
  • Click on Control Panel
  • Under Course Options, click on Export Course
  • Check all the boxes that you wish to backup
  • Click on Submit

You will see

Receipt
Click the right mouse button and select Save As

Or click on the link above to download the package file.

  • Right click on the line as indicated and select a folder (the Blackboard Backup folder you created) in which to save the backup.
  • Click on OK

A compressed zip file backup of the course will be created.
The file name is prefixed with the word ExportFile_

Check the folder to see that this backup file is created.
