Navigating Handshake
Welcome! This presentation will help you to navigate Handshake, Kingsborough's online jobs board that we also refer to as career wave.
On Handshake, opportunities are available from top employers for full-time and part-time jobs, as well as internships.
Handshake not only helps you to discover and land jobs and internships, it also helps you to get discovered. Employers can message you directly if they want to hire you. You will have the ability to connect with employers and learn more about their company. Lastly, you can get expert help from the Career Center.
To get started, on your device, you can download the Handshake app on the App Store or Google Play. Simply scan this QR code to take you there. You can also visit https colon forward slash forward slash kbcc-cuny dot joinhandshake dot com forward slash. You must use your KCC email address when creating your profile. The preferred way to use your account, though, is with single sign-on. Visit https colon forward slash forward slash kingsboroughcc dot okta dot com forward slash.
On the login page, use your Kingsborough email address and password. Once you're logged in, you will see the Handshake icon.
Click on the icon and you will automatically be logged in under the account created for you.
It's important to complete your Handshake profile. Employers find you based on your career interests listed in the profile.
The three must-haves are job type, location, and job roles.
Once you've set up the profile, check out the employers listed on the site. You have the ability to message an employer first.
Some tips are start off with a friendly opening, tell them a little bit about yourself, and ask a few questions about the role and the company.
We also strongly suggest that you attend events hosted by employers. This not only allows you to meet representatives from the company, but to learn more about the organization and what they are looking for in candidates.
Lastly, check out the events hosted by the Career Center and participate in them.
