Kingsborough Community college

Purpose and Scope

The Kingsborough Faculty Committee on General Education was created in response to the University’s renewed emphasis on undergraduate education. The role of this committee is to evaluate the degree to which Kingsborough’s General Education goals and desired outcomes are reflected in its General Education requirement as the requirement is currently articulated. Further, the committee is charged with making recommendations for General Education reform where warranted.

The Work Ahead

To date, the General Education Committee has sent two teams of its members to AAC&U’s General Education Institutes – one in May 2005 and another in June 2006.

Participation in these Institutes generated much discussion and new knowledge among members, and the Committee is now ready to begin a General Education conversation with the Kingsborough faculty at large.

The Committee is planning an event in early October to kick off faculty-wide reflection on our General Education program and will be communicating regularly throughout the year to provide ongoing resources to inform our discussion.
