Career Focused Learning Communities

In Spring 2007, Kingsborough piloted the Career Focused Learning Communities Program. These learning communities link two courses needed by students who have completed at least one semester at Kingsborough and who are majoring in Accounting, Business Administration, Health Careers, Early Childhood Education, and Mental Health and Human Services. To that end, these learning communities link Psychology courses with Business or Biology. In addition, these links include an Integrative Seminar designed to help students relate their courses to each other and their studies to careers. The Integrative Seminar encourages students to envision themselves as professionals and to reflect on their own development as they move toward that goal.

Courses are block programmed, offering students convenient scheduling. Faculty collaborate to provide students with a coherent and integrative learning experience.

Finally, supplemental instruction is available for students through faculty who sometimes sit in on classes and who offer students support through small group or one-on-one instruction.
