Faculty
interested in participating in Kingsborough's learning communities attend
a new faculty orientation the semester before they begin. They then spend
the following module (Winter or Summer) collaborating with other members
of their team - identifying shared student learning outcomes and themes,
synchronizing course topics to maximize connections, and designing shared
assignments. Each learning community program holds a pre-semester kick-off
meeting as well as three faculty development workshops throughout the
semester, which are attended by all members of each learning community.
One of these meetings is a joint workshop for faculty of all learning
community programs. Workshop topics are elicited from the faculty and
usually involve faculty sharing best practices.
Faculty development is coordinated by Profs. Rebecca Arliss, Marcia Babbitt
(Opening Doors), Prof. Rebecca Mlynarczyk (Intensive ESL LCs), and Prof.
Janine Graziano-King (Career Focused LCs).
