Information Literacy

Students need to become information competent to succeed and compete in today's networked world. Learning communities, with their interdisciplinary focus, provide the perfect environment for integrated information literacy instruction. Librarians (who are on the front lines of this information revolution and offer expertise in digital and print media, electronic database searching, technology and resource-based learning, and other aspects of information literacy) became part of Kingsborough's learning communities in Spring 2005. Collaborating with faculty, they help to create information-rich assignments tailored to the needs of individual learning community teams and to students' skill level. Librarians teach a class in the SD 10 course and develop materials that support students' successful completion of these assignments.
