Opening Doors Program

Prof. Steve Amarnick - Opening Doors
Prof. Steve Amarnick working with an Opening Doors cohort.

In Opening Doors, cohorts of up to 25 students take a program of three linked courses: English (Developmental or Freshman English I, depending on CUNY ACT reading and writing placement exam scores); Student Development (SD 10); and a General Education course such as Art, Biology, or Psychology. Faculty and SD instructors collaborate to link courses through common student learning objectives, themes, and assignments. Research on students in Opening Doors is being tracked and outcomes are promising.

The Opening Doors Program began in the fall of 2003, guided by Rachel Singer, Director of Academic Affairs, and supported by Freshman Services and College Advisement, directed by Peter Cohen.
