Position
Description and Duties |
||
|
|
||
|
Reporting to the President, the
Dean of Student Affairs is the chief student services officer responsible for
the supervision of the Department of Student Development. As chair of the department, the Dean is
responsible for providing leadership to the department and advising the
President on issues affecting students.
The Dean also chairs the departmental personnel and budget committee
and serves on the College-wide Personnel and Budget Committee as the
President’s representative from the department. Additional responsibilities
include: ·
Development and
implementation of the department’s annual goals as part of the College’s
ongoing planning process. ·
Preparation and
management of the departmental budget. ·
Supervision of
Personal Counseling Services, the College Discovery Program, the Office of
Career Planning and Placement, the ·
Supervision of
the College’s Judicial Affairs Office and coordination of disciplinary
processes in accordance with University guidelines and College governance. ·
Recruitment and
evaluation of all personnel in the department including deans, directors and
department heads. ·
Coordination of
student services in support of the College’s overall enrollment management
effort (e.g., student orientation, open-houses, freshman services, etc.) ·
Serve on the
President’s Cabinet and assistance in the development of College policy in
the area of student affairs. ·
Preparation of grant
proposals in support of initiatives emanating from the College’s strategic
plan and/or department plans. ·
Supervision of
all grant activities including the Perkins Grant as well as privately funded
initiatives in support of the department. ·
Other related duties
as determined by the President. |

Qualification
Requirements |
||
|
|
||
|
A master’s
degree in an appropriate discipline and a minimum of eight (8) years of
senior-level administrative experience in the area of student affairs required;
doctorate preferred. The successful candidate must have extensive experience
in supervising each of the areas within the department, including the
management of a diverse staff.
Evidence of progressively responsible experience in each of the related
areas along with a demonstrated record of leadership with a diverse student
body in a higher education environment required. S/he must possess excellent written and
verbal communication skills and be able to demonstrate the ability to develop
strong relationships with students, faculty, staff and the senior leadership
of the College. |
