Kingsborough Community College
Robert J. Kibbee Library

USING THE NEW CUNY+

1.      Go to the Kingsborough Library Homepage (http://www.kbcc.cuny.edu/kcclibrary/index.html)

2.      Choose Books

3.      You can choose to search the KCC library or all CUNY libraries.  If you are outside the library, you will be directed to the catalog for all CUNY libraries.  You can change from one library to another or to all CUNY libraries by clicking on the desired choice at the top of the screen.

4.     You can search by author, title, subject or keyword.  Use the pulldown menu to specify whether your keywords are part of the author's name, the title, or the subject.

5.    Click Search or Browse.

6.      After you type in your search terms, click Search or Browse.

7.      On the Results list, click of the name of the college to find the call number and circulation information (whether the book is in or out).

8.     If the word CUNY is in the place for the name of the college, it means that the item is a centrally cataloged web resource.  CUNY owns some online books and online government publications are included in the library catalog.  Click on the title of the publication to get to the information (record) about the item.  Then click on the URL to get to the item.

9.      All books are arranged by Library of Congress call number.  To learn how to read call numbers, see the “Using Call Numbers to Find Books” handout.

10. Reference books cannot be borrowed.  They are kept on the second floor.   Reserve books are books placed on hold by instructors.  They are kept at the circulation desk on the second floor.  Circulating books are on floors 5, 6, 7 and 8.  The catalog gives “Stacks” as the location of circulating books.  If a book has not been borrowed (and is, therefore, available if you want to borrow it), it has “Regular Loan” listed in place of a Due Date.
