LexisNexis:  Using the Guided News Search

What is LexisNexis?

LexisNexis is an online database containing full-text newspaper, magazine, and journal articles from approximately 6,100 news, business, legal, medical, and reference publications.

How Do I Access LexisNexis?

Go to Internet Explorer.  Type in the Web address http://libraries.cuny.edu.  Select E-Journals & Reference Databases.  Choose Lexis-Nexis from the menu options appearing on the left side of the page under “Full Text.”  For on campus access, click on the yellow square.  From off-campus, click on the green house icon and type in the library barcode from your Kingsborough ID card.

How Do I Search LexisNexis?

Click on  tab and follow each step.

Step One:  Choose a news category.

Step Two:  Select a news source.

Step Three:  Enter search terms in the boxes.  Use drop-down box to search in the headline and lead (first) paragraph, headline only, full text, by author, or in a caption of a picture.

Step Four:  Select date range using the drop-down box or enter date range in MM/DD/YYYY format.

Step Five:  Enter newspaper or journal name to search a specific publication (optional).

Click on red search button.

Select title of publication for full text of article (appears in red on the screen).

Follow directions for printing or e-mailing.
