FINDING LITERARY CRITICISM
Using CUNY+
In CUNY+ (the online catalog for books), use the pull down menu to do a subject search for the author to find books about the author or criticism of his work.

The following databases may be useful
1.Academic Search Premier (Ebsco) - may have fulltext of journal articles. Use the author’s last name and the title of the work of literature as search terms.
2. InfoTrac Literature Resource Center/MLA - a collection of databases, including Contemporary Authors, Contemporary Literary Criticism Select, Dictionary of Literary Biography, selections from Children's Literature Review, Classical and Medieval Literature Criticism, Drama Criticism, Drama for Students, Literature from 1400 to 1800, Nineteenth‑Century Literature Criticism, Literature of Developing Nations for Students, Novels for Students, Poetry Criticism, Poetry for Students, Shakespearean Criticism, Shakespeare for Students, Short Story Criticism, Short Stories for Students, and Twentieth‑Century Literary Criticism. Also included is a database of 140 fulltext journals, the Merriam Webster Encyclopedia of Literature and links to selected literary websites.
Use the Gale Literary Index to find print resources on literary criticism published by Gale ( e.g. Contemporary Literary Criticism, Beacham’s Guide to Popular Fiction, Poetry for Students).
CUNY has also purchased the MLA Bibliography.
3. J-Stor - a limited collection of journals, all fulltext. Use the Language and Literature journals.
4. Project Muse – fulltext academic journals. Do a keyword or subject search.
5. Ethnic Newswatch has fulltext for ethnic publications and may be helpful for themes having to do with minorities.
6. Columbia Granger's Poetry Database is an index of poetry found in anthologies, as well as those found in the collected works of individual poets. This database currently has nearly 50,000 poems in full text and more than 400,000 poem citations.
7. MagillOnLiterature Plus, produced by Salem Press includes reviewed critical analyses, brief plot summaries, biographies and author essays.
8. Twayne’s Author Series consists of searchable online editions of Twayne's U.S. Authors, Twayne's English Authors, and Twayne's World Authors.
9. In Essay and General Literature Index do a subject search for the author. Essay and General Literature Index will help you to find chapters of books that may be relevant. Go back to CUNY+ to find out if Kingsborough has the book and what its call number is.
10. Humanities Index and Social Sciences and Humanities Retrospective can be used to find articles on literature. You will need to check the catalog and/or the Print and Electronic Periodicals at KCC (http://xf8rz8wc9a.search.serialssolutions.com/) to find out whether the journals are available at KCC.
Finding books and periodicals that are not in Kingsborough or online
1. Check the Print and Electronic Periodicals at KCC (http://xf8rz8wc9a.search.serialssolutions.com/) The article you need may be available in a different database.
2. In CUNY+ search all CUNY libraries.
3. Use WorldCat to find the book or journal in other libraries.
