Kingsborough Alumnus Wins National News Emmy for His Reporting on Africa.

Reporting by CNN correspondent and Kingsborough Community College alumnus, Jeff Koinanage, has led the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences to award the 2006 Emmy Award for "Outstanding Live Coverage of a Breaking News Story" to CNN.  Anderson Cooper and Mr. Koinange won the honor for "Starving in Plain Sight", which appeared on Anderson Cooper 360 degrees.  The program, aired last August, highlighted the under-reported crisis of famine in Niger.

All this week at 10pm, CNN will continue its reports from Africa on Cooper's show with "Africa's Misery, the World's Shame."  I urge all of you to tune in not only to catch Jeff Koinange in action but also to learn more about the serious situation in Africa.

Mr. Koinange is CNN's Chief Africa Correspondent.  A 1989 Kingsborough graduate, Koinange was the keynote speaker at the college's 2006 commencement and was presented with the Kingsborough Community College President's Medal.  Koinange's Emmy is a consummate professional accomplishment.  The entire Kingsborough community takes pride in Jeff's important work and offers him our heartiest congratulations.
