The CUNY’s 2006 Salute to Scholars ceremony, held on November 28 at the New York Historical Society, honored four Kingsborough scholars.
“The entire college community joins me in congratulating our four distinguished scholars for their noted achievements,” said Dr. Regina Peruggi, president of Kingsborough Community College.
Doctors Stuart Schulman, Harold Connolly, Michael Weisberg and Gregory Aizin were among 231 CUNY faculty members who received outstanding national recognition for their research scholarship and various accomplishments.
The annual event sponsored by CUNY provides an opportunity to celebrate CUNY’s extraordinary faculty and, at the same time, bring public attention to their remarkable and exceptional academic accomplishments.
“Indeed, CUNY’s outstanding faculty have long been the pride of the University, as devoted to the advancement of their students as they are to the advancement of knowledge in their field. Our annual ‘Salute to Scholars’ offers an opportunity to congratulate those members of the faculty who have received research grants and professional awards in the last year, and to thank all members of the University's facility for their dedicated teaching and scholarship,” said Chairman Benno C. Schmidt, Jr. and Chancellor Matthew Goldstein in a joint letter.
Dr. Schulman was honored for establishing the Virtual Enterprise, a class that gives students the opportunity for practical and task-oriented instruction in simulated business environments. More than 1500 practice firms in 20 countries are part of the International Practice Enterprise market. This program is supported by a grant from the National Science Foundation Advanced Technology Ed.
Dr. Connolly was recognized for his outstanding work in constraints on solar system origins from experimental and petrographic investigations of primitive planetary materials and Dr. Weisberg for petrologic-geochemical studies of primitive solar system materials. Their collective work is supported by a grant from the National Aeronautics and Space Administration.
Dr. Gregory Aizin was recognized for his work on tunable optical systems based on Bragg Multiple Quanturm structures. This work is supported by a grant from City University of New York.
