BROOKLYN, NEW YORK- WKRB-90.9 FM, Kingsborough Community College’s radio station, is changing frequency this Friday, March 31 st, from 90.9 FM to 90.3 FM. The change is a result of WFUV’s Fordham University’s Radio Station’s move to a new antenna atop Montefiore Medical Center. This new antenna location greatly increases WFUV’s projected coverage area, creating overlap with WKRB.

As a solution, the Federal Communications Commission has recommended that WKRB move to a less-crowded frequency, 90.3 FM. With a great deal of cooperation between WKRB's engineer, Joe DeRosa, Fordham University's engineers, and the FM branch of the FCC, WKRB was able to apply for, and be granted permission to move to 90.3.

Although WKRB’s facilities and power, at 10 Watts, would remain the same, engineering studies have shown that at 90.3 FM, WKRB would receive less interference.

Since first going on the air in May 1978, WKRB has served the South Brooklyn community with a variety of programming; broadcasting - at various times - local election returns, KCC sports, innovative music programming, foreign language programs, the Brooklyn Cyclones, informational programs in conjunction with Courier-Life Publications, and many other 'firsts.'

The station has also spawned many successful graduates: Africa correspondent for CNN, Jeff Koinange; programming executives at Hot 97, Sirius Satellite Radio, XM Satellite Radio and many other stations; broadcast news producers; news reporters and anchors at WINS and WCBS880, as well as dozens of other positions in broadcasting, advertising, public relations and marketing.

WKRB is located on the campus of Kingsborough Community College, a college of the City University of New York.
