About Service-Learning

“Never doubt that a small group thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it’s the only thing that ever has.”
- Margaret Mead The Service-Learning program at Kingsborough Community College began in the fall of 2006 with a three-year grant from the Community College National Center for Community Engagement, a Learn and Serve sub-grantee.
The program began with three faculty members and collaborating community partners. To date, the program has served over 20 faculty members and 35 community partners and is still growing.
Participating academic courses have developed out of multiple academic disciplines including Behavioral Sciences, Journalism, Culinary Arts, Education, Art, Substance Abuse Counseling, Community Health, Mental Health, Website Development, Web Design, Student Development and more.
Kingsborough Service-Learning projects have helped earn the college recognition on the President’s Higher Education Honor Roll for four consecutive years.
With the goal of long-term stability and quality partnerships, the program seeks faculty who are committed to civic engagement and experiential learning as well as community partners devoted to serving as co-educators.
