Access to the Student Information System

The Student Information System (SIMS)
This is a Student Information System and all rules of privacy must be adhered to.
To receive a SIMS account, an application must be filed and signed by chairperson, indicating which screens individual can
access. (You can call or write for an application)

The student Information Systems (SIMS) serves:

  • Admissions
  • Financial Aid
  • Registrar (student records)
  • Bursars (student billing)
  • All the Academic Departments
  • All Administrative Departments
  • All Counselors
  • Security

Problems with SIMS:
  • Multiple sign on
  • Forgot User ID or Password
  • Student locked out
  • Printing SIMS form
  • Icons missing

You can call the Help Desk ext. 4840 or the Computer Center ext. 4900 for any of the above situations.

Kingsborough Community College Policy and Sample SIMS Application for SIMSBy the authorization to use the SIMS, Kingsborough Community College’s Student Data Base, you will be accessing information that is protected by Federal Student Privacy. The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) prohibit the disclosure of information to unauthorized parties.

When accessing this system, you must access only that information needed to completed your assigned or authorized task.
You may communicate the information only to other parties authorized to have accounts in accordance with the provisions of FERPA
If you have any questions about these provisions, please contact the Registrar.

Any intentional behavior with respect to the electronic environment that interferes with the mission or activities of the College or members of the College Community will be regarded as unethical and may lead to disciplinary action, under standard University rules for misconduct and existing judicial, disciplinary personnel processes.

The following activities are examples, but not an exhaustive list of unethical behavior with respect to the electronic environment:
  • Intentionally damaging or destroying the integrity of electronic information’
  • Intentionally compromising the privacy of electronic networks or information systems;
  • Intentionally disrupting the use of electronic networks or information systems;
  • Intentionally infringing upon the intellectual property rights of others in computing programs or electronic information, including plagiarism and unauthorized use of reproduction
  • Wasting resources (human or electronic) through such actions.

Please note that Kingsborough Community College adheres to a set of policies specifically to our Student Information System form the City University of New York.

SIMS also includes a web interface (eSIMS Web) for access by students. Through eSIMS students can register for courses, view their transcripts, course schedules and financial information. All that is needed is a correct User ID and PIN number plus a Browser e.g. Netscape, Windows Explorer, etc.
