All About The Scholarships
Scholarships are grants of money to help you with your education; they are repaid. To find sources of assistance, first check for institutional scholarship money through the financial aid office, especially if you are transferring to a private school. Next, use the tools below. These services are available at no cost. The process requires that you submit certain information about your background. Based upon your profile, the search will return a list of possible scholarship sources.
It is then up to you to phone, write, fax or e-mail the sponsor to receive an application. Complete the application and return it to the sponsor.
Not all scholarships require that you maintain a high GPA nor demonstrate financial need, and you are not restricted to the number of scholarships you apply for -- or receive.
- Established by the New York City Council, the Vallone Scholarship rewards high school graduates who have proven their ability to succeed academically while they were in high school. To qualify, you must have graduated from a New York City high school with at least a “B” average, passed at least twelve college preparatory courses in high school, and have enrolled at a CUNY college as a full-time student within one year of graduating from high school. You may not have attended any other post secondary institution before attending CUNY. If you are awarded this scholarship, you must register as a full-time student each term and maintain at least a 3.0 cumulative GPA. You are no longer eligible to receive the scholarship if you: do not register for a fall or spring semester, you register as a part-time student, or your GPA falls below a cumulative 3.0. The award cannot be restored once it has been lost. There is no separate application for this scholarship; eligibility is determined using the CUNY admissions application.
- The City of New York provides supplementary aid to certain groups of students within these classes:
- part-time students whose Pell EFC is greater than 3851 but less than 6200
- full-time students who have exhausted their TAP pursuing an associates degree
- certain, independent students whose TAP is less than the maximum
No, separate application is required. For more, detailed information, stop by the Financial Aid Office.
