Students explore the role of lifestyle factors such as nutrition, physical activity, sexual behavior, and drug use in the control, development, or prevention of diabetes, heart disease, cancers, hypertension, HIV, and other public health problems. Concentrations in Holistic Health and Gerontology allow students to focus on a more specific area of interest. |
Graduates prepare to design, deliver, or direct health promotion and education programs and work as Health Education Specialists, Health Promotion Directors, Patient Advocates, or Health Administrators in government and community health agencies, hospitals and medical centers, schools and universities, as well as corporate wellness programs. Students transfer to St. Joseph’s, Hunter, Lehman, or York College, C.U.N.Y.. |

Students gain the knowledge, skills and ability to design, implement and provide instructions to clients on safe and effective exercise programs and effectively educate/counsel clients regarding lifestyle modification. |
Students are prepared for the ACSM Health and Fitness Instructor Certification examination, which qualifies them to work in the finest health clubs and corporate fitness centers, or as entrepreneurs operating their own fitness businesses. Graduates may also transfer to baccalaureate programs. |

This concentration includes courses in sports skills, along with the methodology of teaching physical education, fitness and exercise. The program prepares students to teach physical activity in elementary, middle and high schools, as well as community centers and fitness clubs. |
Graduates may work as exercise leaders in fitness centers, community centers (YMCA's, aquatics, after school and recreation programs), or as coaches, officials, or counselors in summer camps. They can also work with special populations such as the disabled or senior citizens. Education to the bachelors and/or masters level will allow graduates to become certified teachers for work in public or private schools. |

Students learn to administer treatment, education, and recreation services to help people with illnesses, disabilities and other health conditions to develop and use their leisure in ways that enhance their health, functional abilities, independence, and quality of life. |
Recreation therapists work in hospitals, nursing homes, day treatment programs, rehabilitation centers, and in community settings. They may work with individuals who have physical, emotional or developmental disabilities. |

This course of study provides graduates with the skills required to work in medical offices and hospitals in the metropolitan area. Students are trained in keyboarding and software skills as well as medical terminology, medical forms, medical billing, and coding. |
Graduates will have the knowledge and ability required for entry-level employment in the health clerical worker field. They may obtain employment in physician's offices, clinics, public or private hospitals, nursing homes, or community health centers. |

Students who major in Speech Pathology will prepare for a profession of specialists who diagnose and treat persons who have speech, language, and/or hearing disabilities. Students may transfer to Brooklyn College as a junior in the major.

Speech pathologists may be employed in educational institutions, medical facilities, geriatric facilities, as well as in private practice. This profession traditionally requires both a B.A. and Masters Degree. |

This program will prepare the student for a career as an allied health professional. A Surgical Technologist works closely with surgeons, registered nurses, anesthesiologists and other surgical personnel delivering patient care. |
Surgical technologists are crucial members of the surgery team. They are employed at hospitals in operating rooms, delivery rooms, cast rooms, ambulatory care units, and central supply departments. They are utilized in clinics, ophthalmologist’s, physician’s, and dentist’s offices. |

This program is accredited by the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission (NLNAC) and approved by the NYS Education Department. The graduate receives an Associate in Applied Science degree and is eligible to take the National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses. |
Graduates of the KCC nursing program who pass the NCLEX-RN examination can seek employment as a registered nurse in hospitals, long-term care facilities, schools, home care, or community settings. The license to practice enables you to obtain a position working in such areas as medicine, surgery, pediatrics, psychiatry, and maternity. |

Graduates are accepted at local professional schools such as Downstate, Long Island University, Touro , Stonybrook, and Mercy , as well as schools around the country. |
Occupational therapists (OTs) help people improve their ability to perform tasks in their daily living and working environments. They work with individuals who have conditions that are mentally, physically, developmentally, or emotionally disabling. They also help them to develop, recover, or maintain daily living and work skills. Their goal is to help clients have independent, productive, and satisfying lives. |

This program is the first step for students who plan to become licensed pharmacists. By taking foundation courses, students graduate with an A.S. in biology and may transfer to a college of pharmacy such as LIU, St. Johns, or Buffalo in order to earn a Pharm. D. degree, which is a 4 year program. |
Pharmacists dispense drugs prescribed by physicians and other health practitioners and provide information to patients about medications and their use. They may work in a community setting, such as a retail drugstore, or in a healthcare facility, such as a hospital, nursing home, or mental health institution |

Students in this program receive the background needed to transfer to a Physician Assistant program at a 4 year school. It is typically a 2 year program in addition to the A.S. degree. State certification is also required. Postgraduate training programs are available in areas such as internal medicine, emergency medicine, surgery, pediatrics, and neonatology. |
Physician Assistants are formally trained to provide diagnostic, therapeutic, and preventive healthcare services, as delegated by a physician. As members of the healthcare team, they take medical histories, examine and treat patients, order and interpret laboratory tests and x rays, and make diagnoses. They also treat minor injuries, by suturing, splinting, and casting. |

The goal of this program is to develop competent physical therapist assistants (PTA). A PTA works under the supervision of a physical therapist and administers treatments, ambulation training, and therapeutic exercises. Because this program is nationally accredited, graduates are eligible for licensure anywhere in the United States. |
There continues to be a demand for qualified physical therapist assistants across the country. Jobs are available in hospitals, rehabilitation centers, nursing homes, sports medicine facilities, outpatient clinics, schools, corporations, athletic teams and other health service agencies.

Although work in the nutrition field typically requires a minimum of a bachelor’s degree, this program provides students with the foundation courses which will be required in a 4 year school. Graduates may transfer as juniors to the Health and Nutrition Sciences program at Brooklyn College. |
Nutrition degrees equip students to be nutritionists, dieticians and nutrition researchers. These professionals plan nutrition programs and conduct nutrition research. They help to prevent and treat illnesses by promoting healthy eating habits. They may also manage food service systems for institutions such as hospitals and schools and promote sound eating habits through education. |

A concentration in substance abuse counseling is available as well as a certificate program. |
