Bridge Program

The Bridge Program at Kingsborough Community College is a Board of Education and City University of New York (CUNY) partnership designed to help high school seniors with learning disabilities learn skills needed to succeed in college.

High school students with learning disabilities are enrolled in September of their senior year in a Student Development College Orientation class (SD 10) for one college credit. In the Spring semester, these students are enrollled in a Student Development Career Exploration and Decision Making class (SD 11) for one college credit. During the Winter Module, instruction in the Freshman Skills Assessment Tests, which includes math, reading, and writing, is provided. The tuition for these courses is waived; students are expected to pay a $35.00 application fee and a $22.00 student activity fee.

During the course of the year in the Bridge Program, students audit college classes, attend workshops, utilize college resources, have access to student mentors, and participate in group and individual counseling sessions focusing on self-advocacy skills, study skills, note taking skills, socialization skills, self-exploration, and the use of technological aids.
