Teachers’ Sabbatical Studies Program
Kingsborough Community College (KCC) continues to be the college choice for public school teachers on sabbatical leave. Many are acquiring computer literacy; others are learning new languages; still others are enrolled in art, music and literature courses. We welcome your interest in attending KCC and ensure you
personalized student services as a professional. Please act now to best affect admission to the college for the upcoming semester.
1. Who is eligible for sabbatical?
∗ KCC and the City University do not establish/determine or approve sabbatical study or course requests. Please contact the Department of Education (D.O.E) for sabbatical details and guidelines.
Currently all course work must be pre-approved by your local Learning Instructional Supervisor (L.I.S.).
2. Reasons for choosing to attend KCC for sabbatical study.
∗ The fall (12 weeks) semester ends before the December holidays, and our spring semester (12 weeks) does not begin until late February or early March. You may also choose to continue to study during the 6 week winter/summer sessions.
Note: Subject to the D.O.E teachers’ sabbatical guidelines and approval, you may be permitted to satisfy your fall credit requirements by combining course work in the fall session A and winter session B; this may also be applicable to the spring session A/summer session B.
∗ A beautiful, secure campus with a research library and available on-campus parking (fee required). In addition, our unique location provides recreational facilities, including a beach.
∗ A knowledgeable and helpful staff.
∗ Lower tuition costs with flexible study options (subject to availability).
∗ Lower student to faculty ratios and credentialed professors who lead stimulating, rigorous and challenging courses.
∗ You will be in college classes with the general study body.
∗ You will be treated as a colleague and a professional.
∗ Come explore, meet new friends and “recharge” as a professional.
3.What are my study options?
∗ Although KCC’s students do enroll as degree or non-degree students, based on our Understanding of D.O.E. guidelines, you are required to apply as a non-degree student. The college application fee and documents you are required to submit are determined by a student’s degree/non-
degree status.
Federal/State financial aid availability is based on a student’s enrollment status, individual income and family circumstances (see college expects for specifics, room U201, telephone # 718 368-4644).
3a. College Admission Process.
- Please contact the Admissions Information Center (Teachers’ Studies Area, room F123, Telephone # 718-368-5811) to obtain a Teachers’ on Sabbatical college application.
Note: Please do not submit an admissions application via the web.
- You have a choice of numerous college courses to select from for D.O.E approval.
You must access course description(s) via the web, www.kbcc.cuny.edu (click college catalogue) for course descriptions, and to determine specific class scheduling (when available click class schedule). Please be aware that courses listed in the catalogue may not be offered during all semesters. Upon submission of your course selection(s) to the Office of Teacher Studies with the pre or co- requisition approval form (if needed), the appropriate college department approval will be requested on your behalf.
Note: It is suggested that you seek D.O.E approval for multiple courses to ensure your class registration (courses are not guaranteed or held).
4. Registration:
∗After being admitted to the college and receiving registration details, class registration is conducted by you independently on line. Registration is at your convenience via an outside computer or at the college, room M101.
