Wave Capture First NYC Community College Championship Since 2009

The Kingsborough Community College Wave are champions of the New York City Community College Soccer scene once again.

In a commanding 4–0 victory over the three-time defending champion BMCC Panthers, the Wave captured their first New York city Community College Championship since 2009, marking a defining moment for a program that has steadily climbed its way back to prominence.

The opening 30 minutes saw both sides exchanging attacks in a tense, high-energy battle for control. Neither team could find the back of the net early, until Klesti Murataj, who was returning for just his second game after injury, made an instant impact. Coming off the bench, Murataj struck a volley in the 33rd minute, igniting the Wave offense and swinging momentum firmly in Kingsborough’s favor.

Just eight minutes later, Omario Walters, who would go on to earn Outstanding Player of the Match honors, buried a powerful header in the 41st minute to double the Wave’s lead before halftime.

Up 2–0, Kingsborough refused to ease off. In the 70th minute, Hazim Hakim calmly converted a penalty kick, extending the lead to three. Then, moments later, Marvens Jn Baptiste delivered one of the highlights of the season, a spectacular free kick from nearly 30 yards out that sealed the 4–0 result and capped off a dominant championship performance.

“It’s been a consistent build for the last few years,” said Kingsborough Athletic Director Robert Allison. “Coach Charles and his staff have done a fantastic job of creating culture. Today was the culmination of that process.”

Allison reflected on the magnitude of the achievement:

“Sixteen years is a long time to wait for a championship, but BMCC is a quality opponent year in and year out, that’s what makes it so satisfying.”

Head Coach Devorn Charles summed up the moment perfectly:

“This isn’t just a trophy, it’s proof of every ounce of sweat, sacrifice, and belief. We didn’t just play for the title, we played for each other. Champions today, KCC family always.”

From disciplined defense to explosive attacking play, the Wave executed at every level, dethroning the 3-time reigning champions and making history in the process.

The 2025 New York City Community College Championship belongs to Kingsborough.
