Dr. Deon Bergeron
Interim Vice President for Enrollment Management
A native of Lake Charles, Louisiana, Dr. Deon Bergeron joined Kingsborough Community College as interim vice president for enrollment management, subject to approval by the CUNY Board of Trustees, as of August 20. He brings over a decade of experience in higher education and a commitment to the public institutions that have a significant impact on students' socioeconomic mobility.
“I believe that KCC provides a better life for its students,” Bergeron said. “Making the process as easy as possible for students who are seeking more opportunities in our community is the role of each individual at KCC, and I hope to help in creating a culture of commitment to the KCC mission.”
In his new role, Bergeron will lead enrollment strategy and oversee multiple student services areas, including admissions and recruitment, financial aid, testing, the One Stop Center, and international student affairs.
“Enrollment management in the midst of a demographic shift is a difficult role at any institution in America. But I believe that higher education is a valuable endeavor.”
Bergeron began his career in college basketball coaching, but a chance opportunity in admissions at the University of Louisiana-Lafayette changed his path. He was recruited to the admissions office and never looked back.
Since then, he’s held positions including admissions counselor, assistant director of admissions, and most recently associate vice president of enrollment services at the University of New Orleans. His work has involved managing enrollment offices, streamlining systems, overseeing budgets, and guiding institutions through accreditation and strategic planning.
Bergeron holds a bachelor’s degree in American history and government, a master’s in business from William Penn University, and a doctorate in educational leadership from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette.
A recent and proud new dad, Bergeron moved to Brooklyn with his wife, Jami, their daughter Clementine, and their three rescue dogs—Petey, Archie, and Lola. He tries to play basketball and golf now and then and is eager to explore Brooklyn with his family. But it’s the people at Kingsborough he’s most excited to meet.
“I’m most looking forward to meeting and getting to know the team and helping each other accomplish our goals, both personally and professionally.”
