Outreach and Education

The Wellness Center is committed to serving the health, mental health, and wellness needs of our students. This includes tablings and walk-in hours with our counseling staff and trainees, providing various psycho-educational workshops and assessments, and offering health and mental health screenings. Topics we have presented on in the past include breast cancer awareness, test-anxiety, suicide prevention, mental health screenings, psycho-education, substance misuse and abuse, free HIV testing, and assistance in health insurance enrollment. Events are regularly held on Tuesdays and allow for students to engage in activities that may encourage them to deepen their knowledge on the topic. Additionally, through our Wellness Walk-In Hours on Thursdays in U113, students are invited to discuss and learn more about time management, success in college, healthy eating, self-care strategies, relationship challenges, transition to college and adulthood, meditation, and much more! Look for our Calendar of Events around campus for updated information on current programming.

Peer Educators and Community Health Interns

Peer Educators and Community Health Interns are one of the levels of support helping KBCC students to overcome their barriers for optimum performance on college campus. These are undergraduate students with an interest in psychology, counseling, health promotion, and mental health education and outreach. They often accompany Wellness Center staff in psychoeducational workshops, class visits and presentations, and outreach events to provide more one-on-one support and coaching to participants.

Other Services

We offer consultation to faculty and staff upon request, tailored workshops (staff and schedule permitting), wellness coaching and support, and practicum training for undergraduate and graduate students. For detailed information about these and other services, please call the Counseling Center at 718 - 368 - 5975.
